Book: Ryan White: My Own Story:

I would use this source because it talks about how Ryan was an honors student and how he contracted AIDS. It also talks about how his home town of Kokomo, Indiana responded to his illness on a negative note. This is a wonderful and down-to-earth biography.

The background of this image indicates that it is a school photo. I would use this picture because since it's a school photo it shows that the school it's self was accepting enough to allow Ryan to take a school photo like the rest of the kids.

14th Annotation

In this picture you will see Ryan attending a dinner party accompanied by two of his celebrity friends.

13th Annotation

In this picture, it seems to me that Ryan is in a class room being properly educated by a formal teacher. If you look in the top right hand corner you will notice part of a students arm, which obviously means that he is in an accepting community.

This photo shows Ryan with his lovely and caring mother, Jean. His mother stood by his side throughout all of the heartache Ryan and his family went through.

Denzel Washington or Cuba Gooding Jr.?

James, Lavuaghn, Shanté, Jessie, and Ms. Melville opinionated that Denzel Washington is a better actor than Cuba Gooding Jr. for multiple reasons. James stated, "He does more action". Lavaughn replied, "appeared in more movies". Shanté emphasized, "He is a action perfectionist and he's a better actor". Jessie responded, "he's a better actor". Ms. Melville opinionated, "he has a wider expansion on a different variety of roles". In conclusion, all five of these people think Denzel Washington is a better actor for mainly the same reasons.

Ryan White Rough Draft

Ryan White

Who is Ryan White? Ryan White was a young, well known, and intelligent individual. Ryan was born on December 6, 1971 with hemopheliac. Years went by after getting the treatment by the name of factorate, which then caused him to contract HIV/AIDs.

Ryan contract HIV in 1984, through blood-bassed products used to treat his hemopheliac. He learned that he had the virus when it was discovered that Ryan had contract a life-threatening lung infection. At first, Ryan was told that he had no more than six months to live. In the process of recuperating and thinking of the time he had left, Ryan confronted his mother with the thought that he wanted to live a normal life style; going to school, be with friends, and day-to-day activities. Unfortunately, for Ryan, his school and community wouldn’t accept. The local superintendent refused to allow Ryan to attend school. Ryan and his family wouldn’t take no for an answer, but he was still forced to “attend” school by telephone for several months while his case made its way through an administrative appeals process. Once the state board came to the conclusion that Ryan should be allowed to attend school, a group of parents sued to keep him out. The courts
ultimately ruled in Ryan’s favor, and so he did return to school.

Sadly, Ryan was met with taunts and unfounded rumors and some students chose to be home-schooled rather than attend the same school with Ryan. Ryan beared the brunt of storm with tremendous patience and grace, demonizing the people who sought to demonize him. However, the family ended up with the decision of moving to another community. According to Ryan, the family chose to do this because they felt it was their “desire to move into a bigger house, in order to avoid the life style of AIDs. Also, they wanted to be accepted by a community and school.” The family moved to Cicero, Indiana, where Ryan enrolled to his new school, Hamilton Heights, and was welcomed with opened arms. The pupils at the school took it upon themselves to learn and teach their parents and teachers about AIDs. Because of all the love that the students and teachers showed towards Ryan and his family, he was able to participate in day-to-day activities like he wished.

Between the times of his diagnosis in 1984 and his death in 1990, Ryan appeared on multiple television shows and magazine covers, and made a documentary about his life. He became friends with nation-wide known athletes and entertainers. Elton John, Greg Luoganis, and Michael Jackson let it be known to the White family that they were there to give all of their support. Ryan would speak out often and articulately about the challenges he faced and how people with HIV and AIDs needed to be shown some consideration.

On August 18, 1990, Congress passed a Public Law, the Ryan White Comprehensive AIDs Resource Emergency (CARE) Act. The Ryan White CARE Act supports the development of system s of care that are responsive to geographical needs and resources. The Ryan White CARE Act is a federal program that funds services for over 500,000 people with HIV/AIDs each year. The CARE Act is named in honor of Ryan White, and Indiana teenager who struggles everyday to make a difference.

This is a website created by Ryans mother so it's basically telling you what type of person Ryan was and how after his diagnosis of AIDS, he was featured in numerous television shows and on magazine covers. In the site Ryan himself talks about how there was discrimination towards him after he was diagnosed. This source will help me on plenty of background information and any other useful information that is needed.

Hemopheliac is when your blood doesn't clot the way it's suppose to. Ryan then started to receive a treatment called Factorate. This site will help me with pictures and any other general information i need to learn about him.

Ryan White

I choose Ryan White for my NHD Project because I am interested in what he went through when he found he had HIV/AIDS at such a young age. This person is important to history because he was a victim of the virus and now, there are millions of people who have it, but no one else's story grabbed my attention as much as Ryan White's. For this weeks research, I found an article at www.ryanwhite.com. I will read and summarize it for next week.

The Most Dangerous Games

I believe Rainsford values liberty, for three reasons. For one, he kills people. He killed two people including a dog. Those people include Ivan and Zarroff. econdly, he seemed to, in a way; succeed in every task that leads up to these three deaths. His first trap was the tree trap, when killed Ivan. His second trap was when he put the pointy sticks in the quick sand and killed the dog. Furthermore, it seems that Rainsford doens't care much about anything. He doesn't care about animals. He says, "They have no understanding". In addition, he sleeps soundly on Zarroff's bed after killing him. In conclusion, Rainsford kills people along with dogs, he succeeds at many things, and doesn't seem to care. This is why I believe Rainsford values liberty.

Pollution

Throughout the last two pollution meetings with Ms. Morson, we discused different strategies of how to get people involed with our topic. There were opinions such as brochures, ads, making a dvd, etc. We also came up with different topics related to ours, such as smoke detectors, child safety, radon, and carbon monoxide.

Service Learning

So far in service learning, I haven't done anything. I plan on volunteering at Einstein Hospital and help nurses. I planed on volunteering at Einstein for about 7 hours. The reason why i want to volunteer at Einstein Hospital is because, that is the hospital that my aunts father was in when he had cancer. He is now deceased. Then I was thinking about volunteering at a nursing home that a friend of mine works at. He said that on the third floor there are people who really need more help then others. There are also people on the third floor of the nursing home who are in wheelchairs and need help going to the bathroom.

NHD Reflections

In relation to NHD, it was different and a just okay experience, but it didn't really excite me. NHD was a struggle, only if you were working by yourself or if you didn't know what you were doing. Something that I would change about NHD is by it not being mandatory. There are other assignments and classes besides NHD. Some people either fell behind in their classes or failed a class or two. When NHD first began, I decided to my project on two of the Founding Fathers who owned slaves. After finding a lot of research for my topic, i began to get bored. I asked a friend of mine, Tevora Lorine Johnson, if she wanted a partner, and she said YES! I didn't think that she was going to say that. Personally, I didn't know what she was going to say, but I was relieved when she said yes.

Final Entry for English. What Should My Grade Be?

My Final grade in English Class should be an A. My grade should be an A, because even though I may have owed Mr. Romero a couple of assignments in the past, and there for they were late, I still handed them in.

It might of seemed like I was never interested in what Mr. Romero had to teach me, but I truly was. My teacher, Mr. Romero, taught me simple skills like how to write persuasive essays, how to to include metaphors and similes into our sentences. Lastly, one of the third out of many things that Mr. Romero has taught us is the red, yellow, and green sentences. It might not have helped me in certain places, but I'm pretty sure that it helped others. Mr. Romero has his own way of teaching. I know every teacher does, but Romero's technique is different, and that's what makes him so unique while he's teaching.

Another reason why I think I should receive this in English is because I work hard. In the classroom I might joke around from time to time, but when I get into a room where there are no distractions, I'm all business. The only time when I might not complete an assignment is if I was absent or if I didn't understand what was assigned to me. If I got an A as a grade for English, it would not only make my mother happy for me, but it would make me feel proud of myself.

Furthermore, these past months have been a great experience for me, as well as my classmates. I feel like I haven't done certain things so that I could just earn the A on my own; which is why I am writing this essay. Then again, I know that I have done more than a lot of other people, which is why I think I deserve an A or at least a B, in Mr. Romero's class. If I don't get an A or at least a B in Romero's class, I will feel like all of this was just a waste of my time. I can not afford to get a C or under in this class or any other class for that matter.

In conclusion, no only would getting this A or B make my mother proud of me, but it would make me feel proud of myself and like I was a student at CHS for a reason. That reason being, getting a better education.

Should there be a age for sexual consent?

Many people might say that there should be an age limit for sexual consent, and I agree. There should be a age limit for sexual consent; just like how you have to be a curtain height to get on a specific ride at an amusement park. I have three reasons why I think this. My first reason is because, it can put you in danger. My second reason you could get pregnant. My third reason is it could interfere with school.

If there wasn't an age limit for sexual consent, then that is put your life in danger. There are many ways how this is putting your life in danger. For example, if there is a 25 year old male, and a 16 year old female, and the 25 year old male has a deadly sexually transmitted disease, and he doesn't tell the 16 year old female. You would would of just thrown away half of your life or less than half of your life. Another reason could be you might be in a situation where your lover might try and take advantage of you. For example, he/she might want to have sexual relations with you, but you don't feel like it at the time, and instead of just letting it go, he/she will decide to make have sex with them; rape you.

Which brings me to my second reason, getting pregnant. If you're having sexual relations with someone much older, and you take the time to trust them, they might take your trust for them for granted. By this I mean they might try and pursue you in to having sex without using a condom. Next thing you know, you have skipped a period. Which then means that there's a possibility of you being pregnant. When it comes down to this you only have three choices. Your first choice being to get an abortion. Your third choice being to keep it, and your second choice is giving your baby up for adoption. These three choices are very hard decisions to make. That why you would be better of by either being celibate or just waiting to have sex until you get to a responsible enough age that you know how serious the consequences are.

My last and final reason is that not having a an age limit for sexual consent can interfere with school. This situation can interfere with school in several ways, but one way is having to drop out. When you end up having to drop out of school, it will be because you're a teen parent struggling to make it in life. Life already isn't fare, why make it more difficult? Teen pregnancy only holds you back and keeps you from doing things that average teenagers do everyday. For example, getting an education, going to the movies, hanging out with your friends, etc. If you children at a young age, then it will be you who is missing out on a once in a life time chance.

In conclusion, no one should have to go through this phase in life, but unfortunately they do. If you learn from other's mistakes then you won't have to learn from your own. So what if you didn't plan on going to college, two wrongs don't make a right(not going to college and having a baby still doesn't make a difference).

Should Huckleberry Finn be Taught at CHS?

Huckleberry Finn should be taught at CHS for three great reasons. Huck should be taught at CHS because for one, it would be a great and new experience. Also, he needs and education. Not to mention, it could make him a productive and responsible college student.

Huck Finn could be shown a great and new experience, because Huck is from a town where there aren't any educational resources. Educational resources such as calculators, textbooks, computers, and etc. All of these things help you with Math, teach you about Social Studies, and help you look up information. Huck wouldn't know what to do with any of these resources, but at the same time he would learn how to use them, because hopefully somebody will teach him. I think Huck Finn would love an experience like this. Not only would Huckleberry Finn grow mentally, but as a person.

Not only should people who can afford to go to school get an opportunity, like this one, but so do people like Huck Finn. I think Huck needs an education because, it shouldn't matter who you are or where you come from, you should still be able to learn. I also think Huckleberry needs an education because learn how to manage money, he could be able to drive a car, and he wouldn't have to pretend to be other people. Also, if Huckleberry Finn got an education, he wouldn't have to always run away from his problems......he could just get a lawyer to solve them for him! Furthermore, if Huck was taught at CHS, he would get the chance of increasing his intelligence.

My last reason for Huckleberry Finn being taught at Constitution High School is because it could probably turn him into a productive and responsible college student/adult. A couple of ways of doing this would be teaching him the goods and the bads of the real world. Huckleberry still needs to learn how to product himself as a young man. If he came to CHS, he would get a lot out of it. Huckleberry Finn also needs to learn how to be responsible. Without responsibility, there's no organization, and that's what I believe Huckleberry Finn needs in his life.

In conclusion, Huckleberry Finn needs an education because of these three great reasons, new experiences, education, and get taught how to be productive and responsible. The three most common things that Huckleberry Finn needs in his life.
